So, Today I Created a Simple Princess Birthday Card Using my Birthday Bash Cartridge! Many of you know, I'm all about simplicity, especially when I have crazy toddlers running around. (I made this card for my mama for her Birthday, which we celebrated Last night, but her Actual Birthday is Tuesday!! Happy Early Birthday Mom, You are forever 39 in my eyes!!)

This is my Super Simple Gift Tag, Who Says Simple Can't Be Cute??

I used the Cricut Cartridge Birthday Bash

I cut the Tag out at 4" and used a textured white card stock I had on hand

I inked the edges with e different Colors of Petal Point Ink 

I used a Piece of Matching fun stringy stuff (I don't know the correct terminology since it was recycled!)

Finally I used this LOVE Embellishment I found from about 7.5 years ago. 

Like I said, Super Simple! Hope you Enjoyed!

MARYLAND

My family and I are big fans of visiting Maryland! In my 2 layouts I have made to share, we were at the Chesapeake Bay for a Wedding! It was tons of fun & so beautiful! I love the water, the colors & the beauty! Hope you get a little glimpse of what I Love Most about Maryland!

 I had fun putting these projects together with the help of picnik.com and remembering how much fun we had in the summer of 2010! There was no family vacation this past summer, so it was nice to pull these pics out & remember! Enjoy the Rest of the Hop, Happy Traveling!

Recipe for using left-over cakes

One of the biggest wastes of money and contributors to landfill, is food waste!!  There is very little food, if any, which I throw out into the bin as scraps, as most are added to compost, and all my meals are planned for using leftovers, or consumed in that meal.  But what do you do with left over cake like apple cake, croissants, white bread, sultana cake or a bundt?  I know it’s hard to imagine that you would ever have any cake left over, but sometimes you do.  Sometimes I often bake a “spare” cake in small cake pans or even muffin tins by simply making an extra half amount of the cake mix. These spare cakes or left overs go into the freezer for recipes like puddings and bakes, thus saving money and baking time, and you’ve got something for midweek school snacks or last minute desserts. 
 
While I have a passion for baking, and love baking the beautiful cakes and desserts for my blog and other sites and magazines which I write for, my own family weekly budget still has to be met.  I’m really thankful to Tina from Crafty and Green for inviting me to share some of my less extravagant, but totally delicious recipes with you, which use leftover cake and pantry staples. 

 In this post I’m sharing one of my family's favourite dessert pudding recipes, Frugal Almond Pudding.  I usually bake this type of dessert or puddings while I’m cooking a roast, it’s more economical on power usage and a great comfort food on cold days. I also use these types of recipes when I have unexpected dinner guests, as half of your dessert is done, or if I don’t want to labor over baking dessert.

Frugal Almond Pudding
My pantry always has some left over nuts and biscuits, and my freezer often has left over cake. So long as you have the other baking staples, you'll have a frugal family dessert winner, it's an easy bake, sweet almond flavoured pudding with a toasted almond and brown sugar topping and served with cream- they'll be asking for seconds.

Recipe serves 4
 
Pudding
Approximately 200g left over cake from the freezer or stale cake.
250mL milk
5 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons custard powder
3 heaped tablespoons almond meal (if you have it, otherwise add same quantity of finely crushed biscuits like arrowroot, nice, shortbread)
1 teaspoon almond essence
Topping
30g flaked almonds
2 tablespoons brown sugar.

Cut cake into 2cm or 1inch thick slices and place into a small baking dish (or ramekins). In a bowl or jug, mix milk, custard powder, sugar, almond meal, almond essence until well combined. Pour liquid over cake. Preheat the oven to 180C. Let liquid soak into the cake for 10 minutes. Sprinkle with brown sugar and flaked almonds. Place dish into a large deep tin (bigger than the baking dish). Pour boiling water into the tin, up half the way of the dish. Cover entire tin with a sheet of aluminum foil and fold over the sides, leaving one side unfolded. Carefully place in the oven and bake for 40 minutes. Serve with cream or ice cream.
